The Newest Member of the Acorn Family…

I want to introduce you to my wonderful new studio manager! Meet Mieke (Meek-ah). I’m super excited to have Mieke join me here at the studio and I know any of you that have the opportunity to meet her will love her as much as I do!

A Little About Mieke…
She is from South Africa, which explains her awesome accent. She has lived in 3 different continents over the last year. She met her husband while living and working aboard a humanitarian missions ship for 2 years. He is actually from the Jackson area and they came back here for him to attend law school. Since being here Mieke has also started studying graphic design. She loves scuba diving, has a great creative eye, is great with kids and might just be the most flexible person I know.

I’m feeling a bit like my life is super boring after telling you all about her! :-) Welcome Mieke, I am so thankful to have you on board!

Hope you have a wonderful week!
Erin

Learn your camera…

As promised on Friday, it is time to announce the date of the next 101 Class. I’m loosing track but this is the 3rd or 4th time I have offered this class and it has always been a really fun time of learning. My favorite part is always when I start seeing light bulbs go off as attendees begin understanding how their cameras really work for the first time.

Have you ever made an attempt at reading your camera manual? If so, you may have felt a bit like you were reading a different language. While I am a big advocate of reading the manual, it doesn’t do much good if you don’t know what any of the settings or terms mean. This class is for anyone who owns a digital SLR (you can switch out your lenses) camera and wants to learn how to use it beyond ‘Auto’. We will focus entirely on the technicals of your camera and shooting, this is not about the business of photography.

DETAILS…

Date: Friday, February 17

Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (approx)

Place: My Home

Cost: $75 (includes muffins & coffee for breakfast, lunch and print material)

The class is limited to 10 people. We will be spending time in both the ‘classroom’ as well as getting out to do some actual shooting. To sign up send us an email via the contact form at this LINK and we will take care of you. If you have any questions feel free to call or email: studio@acornstudiophoto.com or 601.460.0548

Here are a few images from the very 1st Class. :-)

Hello 2012!

Hello blog world –I haven’t disappeared off the face of the earth, really. Here we are well into January and I am already feeling behind at the start of 2012– seeing that I intended to write this post over a week ago. A lot has happened with our family since my last post as well as some exciting new developments with the studio. The majority of our family happenings revolved around moving to a new house right before Christmas and then a week of traveling to Michigan over the holidays. I can’t say that moving right before Christmas or 16 hour days in the car with a 4 year old and 1 year old is my idea of fun, but we were happy to see family and this is what memories are made of, right?

On the studio side of things… moving to a new house meant a fabulous new office space for me to meet clients and work from. I’m still trying to get that all put together and will share pictures when it is ready or you can book a session and come see it for yourself. ;-) The most exciting development on the studio front is the addition of my wonderful new studio manager Mieke. I am super excited to have her on board and will be officially introducing her here on the blog next week.

With the start of the new year I have spent some time thinking about what I want 2012 to look like for my family and business and am really excited about the possibilities. There are several things coming up over the next months including my next 101 Class, the Acorn Senior Model program, and 2012 Mini Sessions. First up will be the next 101 Class which covers the fundamentals of how to use your digital SLR camera. The date for this class will be announced here on the blog Monday so stay tuned…

Since no post is complete without images, here are a few images from sessions that took place toward the end of 2011 and never made it to the blog. Check out the Acorn Studio Facebook Galleries if you want to see more.

Thank you to all of my wonderful 2011 clients who made it such a great year. I hope that I can photograph each of you again in 2012!

Blessings,

erin

PS- I currently have work hanging in Cups at the Clinton location– so stop by grab some coffee and take a look!
